consumer account – Switch profile knowledge from previous Mac to new with out the “rubbish”?

I just lately transferred the profile I take advantage of from my previous Mac to a brand new one.

Due to Migration Assistant and Thunderbolt all the things went easily and quick. That’s till I realised all of the “rubbish” that went alongside.

After I checked by way of terminal what the basis folder (that’s ~/) contained with (ls -la), I noticed that every one the hidden recordsdata went alongside. That’s in all probability anticipated. And I do not appear to have the selection to switch simply the information that’s contained within the folders/directories of ~/ (that’s, the content material of Desktop, Paperwork, and so on.), however not the content material of ~/Library and different stuff I won’t pay attention to.

Due to this fact I made a decision to erase the profile and do the switch manually, however I quickly had 2 essential points:

  1. I can handle to switch some knowledge, however not different (i.e., Pictures Library.photoslibrary, it doesn’t matter what I did even following this Apple KB)
  2. Some critical “rubbish” was transferred too that I couldn’t find after the deletion of the profile it doesn’t matter what I did (see this SE thread for that concern and what I ended up doing).

I assume that the problem ensuing from level 1. comes from the truth that though the profile names are the identical in a single pc and the opposite, their IDs or fingerprint, or no matter doesn’t match and subsequently prohibits the switch (it will also be as a result of I clearly lack some information).

Due to this fact, my questions are:

  • Does Migration Assistant enable, in a technique or one other, to decide on what knowledge is transferred from a Consumer profile?
  • If this isn’t attainable, is there one other solution to switch the information with out getting blocked (like what occurred with Pictures Library.photoslibrary)?

Programs used

  • “Outdated” pc: macOS Sonoma 14.6.1, 2.8 GHz, Quad-Core Intel Core i7, 16 GB RAM
  • “New” pc: macOS Sonoma 14.6.1, Apple M3 Max, 128 GB RAM

P.S.: Transferring the Consumer Profiles with Thunderbolt the practically 2 TB of knowledge from the “previous” pc took 2-3 hours with Migration Assistant. Transferring <100 GB of knowledge from one profile to a different by dragging and dropping took additionally 2-3 hours. The distinction is placing!
