Google has introduced a brand new open-source normal for agentic commerce known as the Common Commerce Protocol (UCP).
Developed in collaboration with a lot of commerce corporations, together with Shopify, Etsy, Wayfair, Goal, and Walmart, UCP establishes a standard language and primitives for the commerce journey between client surfaces, companies, and cost suppliers.
“As shoppers embrace conversational experiences, they anticipate seamless transitions from brainstorming and analysis to ultimate buy. Which means it’s vital to help real-time stock checks, dynamic pricing, and prompt transactions, all inside the consumer’s present conversational context,” Google wrote in a weblog submit.
In response to Google, present infrastructure doesn’t help agentic commerce nicely, and companies are required to construct new connections for each floor they need to join. It constructed UCP to deal with this bottleneck by offering a single abstraction layer between providers.
The 4 key parts of UCP are:
- A single integration level for all client surfaces
- Shared language to standardize discovery, functionality schema, and transport bindings
- Extensible structure that may scale as new agentic experiences emerge
- A security-first strategy that gives tokenized funds and verifiable credentials in order that brokers and companies can securely talk.
“UCP is constructed to energy agentic experiences throughout the commerce ecosystem. It creates a transparent language for client surfaces (comparable to AI Mode on Search, Gemini, and others) to hook up with enterprise backends (for product discovery, cart checkout and many others) in a standardized and safe method,” the corporate wrote.
